Spaces are now Projects
If your team uses Perplexity for ongoing research or projects, this means less repeated setup — Perplexity now remembers context and keeps working on the same files across sessions, useful for teams running multi-week projects who don't want to re-explain background every time.
What changed
Source summary
Perplexity has renamed and upgraded Spaces to Projects, adding a persistent file system so its Computer feature edits the same files across sessions instead of starting over, plus a self-improving memory feature called Brain for long-running team work.
Why it matters to your work
Practical interpretation
If your team uses Perplexity for ongoing research or projects, this means less repeated setup — Perplexity now remembers context and keeps working on the same files across sessions, useful for teams running multi-week projects who don't want to re-explain background every time.
When this could help
Useful for any ongoing piece of work — a research topic, a recurring report, a team project — where you want Perplexity to retain shared files and context across multiple sessions instead of starting fresh each time.
Perplexity replaced Spaces with Projects — a more capable evolution, not just a rename. Projects add a persistent, shared file system that both you and Perplexity Computer agent work from across tasks, a self-improving memory (Brain) that learns from a Project past sessions and files, connections to 400+ tools (Google Drive, Notion, Linear, Snowflake, GitHub and others), Slack/Teams integration (typing /project binds a channel to a Project), and reusable Skills for turning recurring work into a repeatable process.
How to get started
Create a new Project, or convert an existing session into one.
Provider guidance ↗Set Project instructions (context and guardrails) and default modes/models, and turn on Brain (automatic or on-demand refresh) so it learns from the Project sessions and files.
Provider guidance ↗Upload or import files and connect any of the 400+ supported tools (e.g. Google Drive, Notion, Linear, Snowflake, GitHub).
Provider guidance ↗Invite teammates to collaborate in the shared Project, or type /project in a connected Slack/Teams channel to bind it to a Project.
Provider guidance ↗Turn a recurring piece of work into a reusable Skill.

Give AI a clearer brief
- Situation
- You have an ongoing project or research topic you return to repeatedly and want Perplexity to retain shared context and files across sessions.
- Consultant
- Act as a project assistant working only from this Project files, connected tools and past sessions.
- Action
- Using only what is already in this Project (files, connected tools, prior sessions), help me continue the task I describe — flag clearly if something I am asking about is not in the Project context.
- Language
- Match the format of the task (research summary, draft, task list).
- Ask
- Ask me what specific task within this Project you should pick up before starting.

Recurring project check-in
At the start of each work session on a standing project, open its Project in Perplexity and ask for a quick summary of where things left off before continuing.
What to check
- A Project can only narrow what an organisation already permits — it cannot expand a user access beyond existing org-level controls. Source ↗
- On the desktop apps (Mac and Windows), local files uploaded to a Project are visible only to the user who uploaded them, not automatically shared with teammates. Forked threads do not carry over the original author private connectors or memory. Source ↗
