Amazon Bedrock now supports reasoning summaries for OpenAI models
Mainly relevant if your organisation builds applications on OpenAI models through Amazon Bedrock. It lets your developers see a readable summary of how the model reasoned through a task, alongside its answer, which helps with debugging and reviewing complex multi-step work.
What changed
Source summary
Amazon Bedrock added a reasoning summary feature for OpenAI models accessed through the Responses API: developers can request a readable summary of the model's reasoning alongside its answer, returned in the summary array of the reasoning output item. It is available for all OpenAI models on Bedrock, across in-Region, geographic cross-Region, and global cross-Region inference, in every AWS Region where OpenAI GPT models are offered.

Practical interpretation

When this could help
Worth enabling for complex, multi-step tasks such as coding, analysis, or agentic workflows run through Bedrock, where understanding the model's reasoning path matters for debugging or trust. Low value for simple, single-turn requests.
Requesting a reasoning summary alongside the response gives developers a readable account of the model's approach to a complex task, which helps with evaluating responses, debugging applications, and showing end users how a request was handled — without exposing full raw reasoning traces.
