Use plugins in Voice and get work done by speaking

You can now get ChatGPT to actually do work — draft a document, build a spreadsheet, or pull data from a connected app — just by talking to it, rather than typing out each instruction. Handy for hands-free moments like a commute or when you're away from your keyboard but need something drafted.

What changed

ChatGPT's Voice mode now supports plugins and connected apps during a live voice conversation, on web, iOS and Android — you can speak to ChatGPT and have it use plugins or connected apps, with written responses shown in the chat. In ChatGPT Work, Voice can now create documents, presentations and spreadsheets, use connected apps, or work in a browser by voice; this requires both Voice and Work access, while Free and Go plan users get Voice in Chat with their plan's supported plugins.

Why it matters to your work

You can now get ChatGPT to actually do work — draft a document, build a spreadsheet, or pull data from a connected app — just by talking to it, rather than typing out each instruction. Handy for hands-free moments like a commute or when you're away from your keyboard but need something drafted.

When this could help

Useful when your hands are busy (commuting, cooking, walking) and you need to interact with a connected app or create a deliverable in Work without switching to a keyboard.

Voice now works with plugins on web, iOS, and Android — you can trigger connected apps, read their replies in the chat transcript, and in Work mode create documents, presentations, spreadsheets, or browse, all by speaking.

How to get started

  1. Start a Voice conversation in ChatGPT on web, iOS, or Android.

  2. Ask Voice to use a connected plugin or app — for example, 'Check my calendar for tomorrow' or 'Draft a presentation on Q4 results'. Written replies appear in the chat.

  3. In Work mode, Voice can create documents, presentations, spreadsheets, use connected apps, or work in a browser. If you end the call mid-task, an unfinished task can continue as text.

Build it into your routine

  1. Hands-free work session

During commute or downtime, start a Voice session and ask it to draft a document, check a connected app, or work through a browser task — review the written output in the chat when you are back at your desk.

What to check

  • Existing app connections, permissions, and usage limits still apply — Voice does not grant additional access beyond what your plan and connected apps already allow. Source ↗
  • Using Voice in Work requires access to both Voice and Work features. Source ↗
