Claude now works with Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides

If your team lives in Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides, you can now bring Claude directly into those files to edit text, build formulas and charts, or draft slides, without copying content in and out of a separate chat window. It's in beta on all paid plans, and a Team/Enterprise admin needs to switch it on first.

What changed

Anthropic released a Claude add-on for Google Workspace plus connectors for Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, in public beta on all paid Claude plans. Claude opens in a sidebar beside an open file, can edit text in place or propose rewrites as suggestion cards, write Sheets formulas/pivot tables/charts and process data in Python, and add Slides matching a deck's layout while checking for overlapping or hard-to-read text. By default each edit waits for approval, with an optional mode that applies edits automatically. Users can also paste a Google file link into Claude chat or ask it to create a new file. On Team and Enterprise plans an owner must enable the connectors first, and admins can deploy the add-on via the Google Admin console; Enterprise plans also get the Compliance API, customer-managed encryption keys, and OpenTelemetry audit export. No regional restrictions are stated.

Why it matters to your work

If your team lives in Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides, you can now bring Claude directly into those files to edit text, build formulas and charts, or draft slides, without copying content in and out of a separate chat window. It's in beta on all paid plans, and a Team/Enterprise admin needs to switch it on first.

When this could help

Editing or rewriting a document in place, building formulas or pivot tables in a spreadsheet, or drafting slides that match an existing deck layout.

Claude can now work inside an open Google file directly, instead of copying content between a chat window and the document.

How to get started

  1. Install the Claude add-on for Google Workspace from the Google Workspace Marketplace (Team/Enterprise: ask your admin to enable it first).

Build it into your routine

  1. Weekly report prep

Open the same Google Sheets file each week and ask Claude to update formulas, charts, or pivot tables with the latest data.

  2. Recurring slide deck

When preparing a recurring presentation, ask Claude to add new slides matching the deck existing layout and theme.

What to check

  • Claude access to a file follows your existing Google sharing permissions; it cannot see files you have not shared with it. Source ↗
  • Both the add-on and the Docs/Sheets/Slides connectors are in beta; expect rough edges. Source ↗
  • On Enterprise plans, the Compliance API, customer-managed encryption keys, and OpenTelemetry audit export apply to this feature. Source ↗
