Introducing the Life Sciences Verification Program

If your organisation runs genuine life-sciences or biosecurity research, you can now apply for verified access to Claude with fewer built-in safety restrictions on biology-related queries — useful for legitimate drug discovery or lab work that would otherwise get blocked. It is not a general feature: you need to apply, be vetted, and it is currently limited to team/enterprise accounts, not individual Claude plans.

What changed

Anthropic launched a Life Sciences Verification Program that gives vetted life-science professionals and organisations access to Claude (Mythos, Opus, and Sonnet) with relaxed biosecurity safeguards for legitimate research, via two grant tiers (Standard Use and a higher-scrutiny High-risk Use). Access requires review of research credentials, security practices, and ethical oversight; it is currently limited to Anthropic's own console and Claude for Enterprise/Team plans (not individual plans or third-party platforms), and is not available for HIPAA/BAA-covered health data.

Why it matters to your work

If your organisation runs genuine life-sciences or biosecurity research, you can now apply for verified access to Claude with fewer built-in safety restrictions on biology-related queries — useful for legitimate drug discovery or lab work that would otherwise get blocked. It is not a general feature: you need to apply, be vetted, and it is currently limited to team/enterprise accounts, not individual Claude plans.

When this could help

Worth applying if your team's legitimate biology work is regularly blocked by default Claude safety filters. Review your use cases to determine whether Standard Use is sufficient or whether specific projects need High-risk access.

Anthropic's Life Sciences Verification Program (LSVP) is a beta that gives verified organisations access to Mythos, Opus, and Sonnet models with more permissive biology safeguards. Standard Use grants cover most life science work (R&D, clinical, QA, regulatory). High-risk Use grants remove all biology blocks for specific projects but require additional vetting and six-monthly renewal.

How to get started

  1. Register interest via the form on Anthropic's LSVP page. This is an expression of interest, not a formal application. Verification covers research credentials, security standards, and ethical oversight.

Build it into your routine

  1. LSVP readiness checklist

Identify which biology use cases are currently blocked, classify them as Standard or High-risk, and prepare your research credentials, security documentation, and ethical oversight evidence before applying.

What to check

  • Beta. Not available for BAA-enabled organisations. Users handling PHI should use separate non-BAA organisations. Source ↗
  • High-risk grants are project-specific, not team-wide. Standard grants are team-wide and renew annually; High-risk renew every six months. Source ↗
  • 30-day data retention is required for LSVP traffic (offline monitoring replaces real-time blocking). Retained data cannot be used for training. Source ↗
